Rapidly changing business conditions and growing complexities of the corporate world have necessitated the need of skillful, well informed and expert professional who can cope up with excessive work pressure and may make the right decisions. Besides, the pace of globalization, privatization, and liberalization has also increased the demand of such types of professionals’ many folds. The requirements of the today's organizations have completely changed in accordance with the new designs and developments in traditional organizational structures. No doubt, the architects of the new age business and academic world are the teachers who through their knowledge can produce such professionals. Today, it is really a challenge for the teachers to update their knowledge and keep themselves fully aware of the latest developments; taking place in different areas of business world. ICT has also brought revolutionary changes in the academic world. Understanding the need of hour, our R&D wing has persistently been taking necessary steps in order to update and enhance the knowledge of our teachers which they may in turn, share with their students. We are regularly organizing and conducting Faculty Development Programmes on National level on different themes which provide a very good platform to our teaching fraternity not only to update their knowledge but also to interact and share their learning with the teachers coming from other organizations. Faculty Development Program on Marketing Management: The Way Forward (March 28-29, 2015)
 
About the Programme
IMS Unison University is organizing a two-day action-oriented Faculty Development Program on the topic “Marketing Management: The Way Forward” on March 28 & 29, 2015. Prof. Mithileshwar Jha, Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore is resource person for the same. During the programme a pedagogical mix of theoretical and experiential tools will be used. Interactive sessions with conceptual inputs, case analyses, in class exercises and problem assignments, based on a spectrum of industries and companies will be used to develop and reinforce the key concepts. The program will also have an extensive relevant back up reading material. Faculty Members from various institutions are likely to participate in the programme and benefit from it.

Mithileshwar Jha is Professor of Marketing at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Professor Jha has held the position of Escotel-CRM Chair and Dean Academic at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow. He has also been a Visiting Professor at ESCP-EAP, Paris, France and Gothenburg University, Sweden. He received his engineering degree from G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand and masters’ and doctoral degree in management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

In a career spanning more than two and a half decades, Prof. Jha has contributed to national level policy making in the areas of Public distribution system, handlooms, and bio-gas. Professor Jha has published a number of articles in leading Indian Journals and has developed about a dozen cases. He has co-authored “Marketing Management (14th edition)-A South Asian Perspective”, published in 2012 by Pearson education, with Philip Kotler, Kevin L. Keller and Abraham Koshy. He was also a co-author in the 12th and 13th editions of this globally acclaimed text. He has also contributed three chapters in “Culturally Adapted Social Marketing (CASM) Manual” with Dr. T.Scarlett Epstein of U.K. The book has been published by Sage, India in the year 1999. He has Chaired, three doctoral dissertation committees, and has served as a member on five doctoral dissertation committees

Professor Jha has consulted with international agencies like Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), NORAD, and Canadian Hunger Foundation. He has conducted training programmes/consulted with organisations like Grasim Industries, HMT Ltd., Indian Telephone Industries Ltd, BPL, Siemens India, Reliance Industries, Ranbaxy, Berger Paints and Government of India among several others. He was a member of the working group on Public Distribution System of Planning Commission, Government of India, set up to develop Eighth Plan strategies during 1988-’89. He has been on the Boards of IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and Gandhi Peace Centre. He is currently on the board of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd. He is a professional member of American Marketing Association and life member of Rural Marketing Association of India.

About the Programme
IMS Unison University organized a two-day action-oriented Faculty Development Program on the topic “Strategic Management: From High Pedestal to Every Day Use” on February 14-15, 2015.The resource person for the same was Prof. Krishna Kumar, Former Director, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. Fifty Faculty Members from well known institutions of the region like IIT Roorkee, MNIT Allahabad, IMS Unison University, DIT University and Tulas Institute attended the programme. The programme exposed the participants to a wide range of tools that can help in making strategic, tactical and operations decisions with higher level of confidence. The program is specifically designed to link conceptual tools with managerial processes.

Prof. Krishna Kumar, Former Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode,(IIMK) is an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and a Fellow (Ph.D.) in Management from IIM, Ahmedabad. He has a rich experience of more than 30 years of both industry and academics.

Joining IIM, Lucknow in the formative years, he has been member of IIML's Board of Governors, Chairman Postgraduate Programme, Chairman, Business Policy and Finance Group, Chairman Placement and member of several important committees of the institute.

Prof. Kumar has been a Visiting Fellow at ESADE, Barcelona under Euro India Cooperation and Exchange Programme, and has played an important role in creating international linkages of IIML. He has also been a member of Senate of IIT Kanpur; AICTE/ AIU expert panels; Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Finance; Editorial Advisory Board of World Association of Case Method Research & Application, Boston and an Additional Director of Scooters India Ltd. Board. He has been a Founder Member & Secretary of Strategic Management Forum.

Dr. Kumar has been extensively involved in teaching, training, research, and consulting for the past 40 years. He has written over 50 case studies and papers and published 3 books, Organization and Ownership, (1982) McMillan India Ltd., Cases in Strategic Management (1996), Global Business Press and Case Analysis and Instructors' Guide (1997), Suri Educational System. He has done consulting for several organizations like NABARD, Hindustan Latex, UP Sugar Corporation & Federations, etc.

Session I (21/03/2014):
Dr. Ramana started the session with a curtain raiser on the “New Concepts in Strategy”. The session included an informative Video Clip on Lego Toys. As a curtain raiser, it kindled the interest of all the participants towards the role of long term as well as short term strategy, in the growth of an organization.
 
Session II (22/03/2014):
Session started with the introduction of applying ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’ in the real industry scenario. Participants were involved in an interesting exercise of identifying ‘Key Competing Factors’ (KCF) and draw a strategy canvas for the same.
 
Session III (23/03/2014):
The session started with an informative and exciting exercise of drawing a map of ‘Buyer Experience Cycle’ (BEC) and ‘Buyer Utility Map’ (BUM) which was an extension of the participant’s previous exercise.
 
Session IV (25/03/2014):
This session was the conclusive one. Participants were given two cases to study and present. The cases were the opposite ends of corporate governance. The first case was on using digital and social media to increase engagement and apply Blue Ocean Strategy while the second one was on ethical and social issues of strategy building.
 
The session was concluded with an overview of the entire course material covered in the previous sessions.
 
 
Faculty Development Program on Multivariate Data Analysis for Management Decisions (18th & 19th January, 2013)
 
Overview of Programme
Teaching and research are the backbone of the academic profession. In the present vibrant and multifaceted business world, the management teachers, apart from teaching research methodology to the budding managers, are also expected to conduct research to sort out diversifying business problems. Looking at the changes in business arena and the progress and innovation in research techniques, it has become imperative for them to sharpen and update their research skills from time to time. This FDP aims at improving understanding of composite concepts of research, statistical models and applications of latest software that should enhance capacity and confidence of researchers.
 
Objective

To provide faculty and research scholars, the tools to understand commonly used techniques, and help them to gain a better understanding of appropriate techniques (mainly including multivariate techniques) useful to their work area and application.
To provide hands-on training on SPSS software for solving problems through popularly used techniques such as conjoint analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, etc.

Prof. Saurabh Agarwal is well-known trainer of quantitative research methods. He is a consultant to IBM and several other organizations. He is an engineering graduate from IIT, Kanpur and post graduate from IIT, Delhi. He has conducted many workshops on Business Research Methods in reputed institutions of India such as IIT, Kanpur; Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida; Symbiosis University, Pune; NIT, Rourkela; IIIT, Allahabad; Chitkara University, Chandigarh and Jamia Milia University, New Delhi etc. He has also delivered training to many reputed public limited companies like Airport Authority of India, New Delhi, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Mumbai and Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi etc. At present, he is working as an Associate Professor with HBTI, Kanpur. Prof. Saurabh Agarwal has many research publications to his credit in the various National and International Journals of repute.

Dr. Zillur Rahman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Studies, at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. He obtained his MBA and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. His areas of interest are Marketing, Sustainability, and Strategic Management. Dr Rahman was the recipient of the Emerald Literati Club Highly Commended Award in 2004 and. Highly Commended Award winner of the 2009 EMERALD/AIMA INDIAN MANAGEMENT RESEARCH FUND AWARD. One of his papers was in The SCIENCEDIRECT TOP 25 HOTTEST ARTICLE. His works has been published and cited in various international journals including Management Decision, International Journal of Information Management, International Journal of Service Industry Management, The TQM Journal, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, and Journal of Applied Statistics, to name a few. He is on the Editorial and review board of several international journals, besides being the Guest Editor of two journals from Inderscience Publishers, and is guiding several Ph.D. theses. He is also involved in several consultancy and research projects.

Dr. Balkrishan Sharma is presently serving as a Professor in the Department of Commerce, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He has also worked in the capacity of Chairman, Faculty of Commerce, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla for more than 8 years. He has completed many research studies mainly including Brand Loyalty in Battery Cells - a Markov Chain Analysis, Export Marketing strategy of Non- traditional items for India and Capital Structure Planning in Private Sector enterprises in India etc. These all studies are of strategic significance for the Government of India. He has authored many books. He is the member of various committees like Regional Advisory Committee of Workers’ Education Centre, government of India; Central Labour Education Board, Government of India and Commerce Panel of University Grant Commission for designing the commerce curriculum etc. He has large number of research papers which have been published in the national and international Journals of repute. He has guided many scholars on MPhil and PhD level.

Dr. Balwinder Singh Saini is an Associate Professor, Faculty of Commerce and Business Management Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He has a long experience of conducting Workshops/FDP/MDP on the research modules that are usually used in management research. He is a well known trainer of IBM SPSS software which is very helpful in applying various analytical tools. He has large number of research papers to his credit in various National and International Journal of repute. He has authored two books. He has supervised many scholars on PhD level and also he is the member of many governmental committees.
 
Faculty Development Program on Research Methodology and Analytical Tools (14-19, December, 2011)
 
On the demand of the teachers from other departments including Law and Mass communication,   the second FDP in series was conducted from 14th to 19th December, 2011. The main objective of the FDP was to make the participants aware of different research techniques/tools applicable in the research pertaining to their respective areas. An elementary idea of SPSS was also given. The FDP was the judicious mix of class room activities such as lectures, group discussion, exercise, demonstration and practice session of SPSS. The FDP was highly appreciated by the teachers who expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Director for this initiative and requested the repetition of the same in future.

Dr A.S. Pandey has a rich experience of conducting Workshops/ FDPs/MDPs etc. After having obtained his MBE and M.Tech, he earned his PhD in Economics. He has more than 18 years of experience including 13 years of teaching experience. He has participated in many workshops/Seminars/ Conferences as resource person. He has published over 20 Research Papers in the National and International Journals of repute.

Dr Hemant Sharma obtained his MMS and PhD degrees from M. D. University, Rohtak. He has an experience of over 14 years in industry as well academics. He has conducted training sessions in various industries and for PhD scholars. He has many research papers to his credit. Recently, his one of the research work has been published in International Journal of Business Management and Sciences, The Society for Alliance, Fidelity and Advancement, Australia.

Dr Namrata Praksah is a Gold Medalist in M.Com. She has also obtained her MBA and PhD in Marketing. She is a NET qualified and having a rich experience of over 10 years in academics. She has organized as well as participated in many Workshops/Seminars/ Conferences and presented research papers. She has published many publications in the Journals of repute.

Prof Rajesh Gupta has obtained his M.Sc (Statistics) and is pursuing Ph.D. He has more than 8 years of teaching experience. He has conducted a few Workshops on the Research Modules for the research scholars as well as MBA students. He has been a part of large number of workshops/Seminars/ Conferences on National level. He has many publications to his credit.
