About the Program
 
The Ph.D program of the University in Journalism & Mass Communication discipline is rigorous, multidisciplinary and broad in scope. This Doctor of Philosophy program is targeted at research scholars, members of teaching fraternity in Universities and Institutions of higher learning, and professionals from private and public sectors. The intensity of the program demands energy and zeal in the pursuit of greater insight into the chosen topic and a willingness to master all essential components of academic research. It covers doctoral research in a variety of journalism and mass communication related areas such as: Development Communication, Media and Gender, New Media Trends, Media and Culture, Broadcast Journalism, Advertising and Public Relation, Film Studies, ICT and Development, Hindi Journalism. The main objective of the Ph.D Program is to promote higher learning and advanced research in areas relating to Mass Communication & Allied disciplines.

The School has a range of active researchers who are focused on contemporary and historical analysis of journalism, news production, developmental journalism and political communication etc. The School also has active research links and collaborative research ventures with departments of other institutions in India and abroad.
PhD in Mass Communication is offered both full time and part time mode.

The program has a compulsory six months course work for both part time and full time modes.
 
Time Duration:
 
The thesis can be submitted after a minimum period of eighteen months (from the date of successful completion of course work) in case of full time PhD program and thirty months (from the date of successful completion of course work) in case of part time PhD program. Maximum duration for completion of full time or part time program is five years from the date of initial registration.
