HR PRACTICES AT IUU
 
A. INTRODUCTION:

IMS Unison University (IUU), Dehradun formerly known as Institute of Management Studies is one of the most prestigious academic centre of the Unison Education Foundation set up in 1996 by a group of visionaries dedicated to the cause of changing the face of professional education in Northern India. The University has been Established under Section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956. IUU envisions to be one of the leading Universities in the Country for the extension of education, research and society development. Currently, IUU offers Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate programs under the following Schools: 


  • School of Management
  • School of Computer Applications
  • School of Law
  • School of Mass Communication

The additional Schools proposed onwards under IUU are as follows:

  • School of Engineering
  • School of Architecture
  • School of Hotel Management
  • School of Medical Sciences
  • School of Languages

Development is an ongoing process and it is so for IUU also. The HR Policy of the University is governed by the "Service & Conduct Ordinance" for the Employees of the IUU presently in force or as amended from time to time. The objective of these ordinances is to provide support to its employees through continuity and consistency of service, better communication, internal & external, in the University and enhancing orientation & focus.

IUU ethics are based on Integrity and Commitment towards achieving our mission and vision.  Our code of Ethics is enshrined in the values of good humanity and governance.

We intend to achieve this by attracting, recruiting, developing and retaining high caliber staff and constantly revitalizing the employees of IUU through benchmark policies and practices.

Our HR Ordinances are transparent and easy to comprehend. Reward and recognition also forms an integral part of our culture.

 
B. SERVICE ORDINANCES:

Appointment and Probation

Appointment for service in the University shall be in such categories of posts as recommended by the Board of Management and approved by the Board of Governors, from time to time. The number of persons to be in the role of employment in the University, at any point of time, in each category of post, shall also be based on the requirement from time to time.

To fill the various categories of vacancies, applications are invited from the eligible candidates by way of advertisement in leading newspapers. All applications are screened thoroughly and the short-listed candidates are interviewed by a selection committee appointed for the purpose.

Based on the qualifications, experience and suitability of the candidate, the selected candidates for various vacancies get placed on pay scale or on consolidated salary with allowances.

All employees are kept on probation for a period of one year from the date of joining with University, extendable to another one year, if required.

Working Hours:

The normal working hours of the University are from 9:00 A.M to 6:00 P.M and for the teaching faculty members the working hours are from 9:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M on all days. This time schedule demands to be adhered to. The University may define different set of working hours for specific category of employees depending on the requirements of the University. If the situation demands Staff members may have to work for extended hours as and when required.

Working Days:

The normal working days for the all employees are six days a week with 01 (one) day weekly off.

The Academic Staff members get an additional OFF on last Saturday of every month as a Special Academic Leave except for the months of May, June, July and December every year. In case any important activity is scheduled on a particular monthly off, the University remains fully functional.

 
C. ACADEMIC STAFF:

The role of all the Academic Staff members is:

  • To ensure effective and efficient conduct of the academic sessions and with adequate library, laboratory and workshops facilities, and guidance to students. The Academic Staff is required to continuously add value to the students through improved methods of teaching, upgrading study material, conducting periodic tests and evaluation etc.

  • To participate in Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities and to carry out any additional responsibility as assigned by the Competent Authority.

  • To pursue research & development activities and provide research guidance.

  • To participate in various student related activities like Training & Placement, Value Added Programs, etc.


 
D. ADMINISTRATIVE & TECHNICAL STAFF:

The role of Administrative and Technical staff members is to act as a support framework to the Academic System of the University. The Administrative and Technical Staff are required to show their dedication, efficiency, and ability to work alone or as part of a team.

The administrative functions of the University shall be categorized under following functional areas:

  • General Administration

  • HR

  • Academic & Student Services

  • Finance

  • Admissions

  • Examinations

  • Training & Placement

  • Hostel Management

  • Medical Services

The technical functions of the University shall be categorized under following functional areas:

  • ICT

  • Library

  • Laboratories & Workshops

 
E. OTHER STAFF:

The other staff play a vital role in efficient operation of the support facilities and infrastructure of the University. They are required to be duty conscious and complete the work in the allotted/ prescribed time, and should be able to work alone or as part of a team. The Support functions of the University are normally categorized as:

  • Housekeeping

  • Maintenance of Facilities

  • Transport

  • Departmental Assistance

  • Security

  • Horticulture

 
F. ALLOWANCES:

All Officers and employees of the University, on a pay-scale, shall be eligible for Dearness Allowance as decided by the University, from time to time and HRA as per the classification of the city.

Apart from this, all the Officers and employees of the University are also entitled for TA/DA as per the Ordinance of the University.

 
G. BENEFITS:

Employee Provident Fund

All full-time regular employees of the University are eligible for employee provident fund as per the provisions of Employee Provident Fund Act, 1952.

Group Medical & Personal Accident Insurance:

All regular full-time confirmed employees shall be eligible for the Group Medical and Accidental Death Insurance. The University shall tie-up with a duly recognized Insurance Company for the same and the premium shall be shared between the University and employee on an equal cost-sharing basis.

The rules as per the selected Insurance Policy in effect, shall be applicable. The Insurance Company as per their norms shall entertain the claims; the University shall not be liable for any claims whatsoever. Group Insurance is a facility extended to the employees of the University and is not binding on the University.
 

Gratuity:

All full-time regular employees of the University are eligible for Gratuity. Gratuity will be an integral part of the retirement / leaving the service after rendering a continuous service for not less than 5 years.

Transport Policy:

IUU provides Bus Facility for commuting to the Campus at a very subsidized cost, to safely transport our employees to work, and back from all major points of the city.

 
H. LEAVE ORDINANCES:

IUU facilitates its employees to avail different types of paid leaves to rejuvenate themselves. Leave should be planned in such a way that the services of the employee are available during the working of semester and the leave requirements are planned during non-academic period as far as possible.

I. PROGRESSION & DEVELOPMENT:

The appraisal of employees of all cadres will be done on annual basis on a fixed date i.e. near the completion of academic session. The employees who have completed one year of service in the University shall be considered for the Performance Appraisal cycle.
